Drinking Water Analysis

The State of California has declared that all drinking water shall be absent of coliform bacteria, and have a total bacterial concentration less than 500/ml. Please see ELAP requirements for information on sampling and transporting water for analysis.
A Heterotrophic Plate Count (HPC) is performed to determine the total level of bacteria (all types) present in a water sample.
Multiple Tube Fermentation for Presence/Absence results. These include results for Total and Fecal Coliform bacteria. The turn-a-round time for this test is 2-7 days.
A chromogenic substrate analysis for Presence/Absence results. These include results for Total Coliform and E. coli bacteria. The turn-a-round time for this test is 24hours.
